Policy Statement

We are the Great Swiss Mountain Dog Club of Great Britain. We are not in any way associated with the GSMD Club.

We believe that there is only one way to breed dogs – the right way.

The dogs our members breed are sound in mind and body. Our dogs have not been operated on or altered in any way, and we do not condone breeding dogs that have been operated on. Our dogs do not have incest in their pedigrees; they do not produce cleft pallets, hook tails or dwarfism. All our dogs are also DNA profiled with the Kennel Club. We put breeding restrictions on all our Kennel Club registrations that go with the pups along with a contract and insurance and lifetime support.

We hold a Breed Registry which records all dogs within the club and all breedings that take place -, good and bad outcomes - as this is the way forward for a new breed and the way to police and control health matters that may arise.

We use bloodlines from excellent quality, which is the only way forward for a breed so newly established in the UK.

Please beware: if x-rays and scoring sheets cannot be produced for HD ED and OCD and Eyes and Hearts and Character Tests then do not purchase a puppy.

There is no such thing as a bargain puppy - that road only leads to heartache and expense and taking said so called breeder to court.

And remember when people start talking about epilepsy....it is in ALL bloodlines. Smart Swissy-breeders will not point fingers at others because of this, because who knows: someday they might be hit with a pup with epilepsy, you just never know, all we can do is to try our best and research the bloodlines that we use. But we can never guarantee that we will never sell a epileptic puppy.
